Testbed Projects Overview

The projects related to this grant, Haptic Audio Visual Network for Education and Training, center around educational events. Educational events are set-up in realistic environments that link our servers and clients with remote servers, classrooms, hospitals, and libraries around the world. These events are evaluated both for educational content and technical performance. Each testbed focuses on applications that challenge networks in unique ways. The testbeds provide opportunities for testing the core system on local, national, and global networks.

Application Development

The applications we are focusing on provide us with the ability to teach interactively with innovative educational technologies within a medical curriculum.

End to End Performance

During the educational events we assess the end to end performance of the network in order to understand more about the applications under real network conditions.

Teaching and Learning Evaluation

We also want to understand the value of the applications to the individual user--both the student and the teacher. In addition it is equally important to assess the value of the technologies and the applications in their social, biomedical and technologicals contexts.
