Background


Dr. Kung earned both of his MS and PhD degrees in structural engineering from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Since 1981, Dr. Kung has developed software and performed simulations for various nuclear power plants and defense strategic structures, using finite element and probabilistic methods. He was the principal investigator for developing PASS (Probabilistic Assessment of Strategic Structures) program for Air Force, and was the key developer for the award winning Ashlar Vellum 3D CAD product. He develops and markets MESHBASE products for authoring intelligent 3D models based on SBIR research results. In addition, he was involved with internet technologies. He worked as a principal engineer with AdForce(CMGI) and CyberCash in developing commercial internet applications.

Project Role
Dr. Kung is a developer on the SPRING surgical simulation project, and he helps maintain the SPRING software program. He develops extensions and infrastructures to support the surgical simulator development.
