Setting up the Room for Teaching & Learning

Even though many of the features are not yet available, we've developed a checklist of classroom management considerations and guidelines for setting up an interactive teaching event:

* Excellent quality audio--preferably having the camera follow the speaker.

* Ability for instructor to

  • see all the students' faces and their monitors. Learn more.
  • Easy to pass baton from student to student
  • poll all students easily

* Students see instructors and their teaching materials in real time and receive unobtrusive coaching, if appropriate,such as forcing synchronization of desktop interface.

Below is a diagram of the Michigan conference room set-up for the Anatomy Lesson. The videoconferencing suite used is similar to AccessGrid, software that enables multiple teams to collaborate and interact simulataneous via multicast.
