Components of Clinical Skills Testbed

Mission: To demonstrate and evaluate interactive surgical training through the use of stereo video and surgical simulations.

Goals:

  1. Learn the outcomes for using high bandwidth medical applications.
  2. Break new ground in networked haptics technologies.
  3. Develop an understanding of event production.

Strategy:

  • Develop and field test interactive, haptic surgical simulator.
  • Schedule learning events using new technologies; improve event performance and capability with each occurrence
  • Identify a methodology for recording preparation and event description that supports event improvement

Criteria for an event:

  • Use high bandwidth network and new technologies
  • Have a learning component
  • Include participants (students, conference attendees, public) who are not HAVnet researchers
  • Build on experience from past events
